putting 2 females together...

dove Nov 30, 2003 09:48 PM

how close in size do two females need to be to be able to house them together?

i know that male/female housing needs to be really close because of the mating/fighting.

i would expect that the two females should be really close too for the same reasons, yes?

thanks

From what I've seen, females have to be really close in size, just like female/male. This is because the larger female would dominate the food and not let the other, smaller, female eat.

Hi

If one female was nicely bigger than the other, she could get more of the food etc. while the other one didn't get as much. The smaller one could also get very intimidated by the larger one.

Oh yeah, another thing that I've heard of on this forum is that if you take the tank and completely remodel it. And place the small on in first, and let it explore and such, and then place the larger one in, they might not fight and what not. Just thought this might help.

thanks!

just what i thought...

i was trying to consolidate tanks but the 2 females i think are not close enough in size...dang. plus i don't want to breed this year, i lost one gecko last year to egg-bound and don't want to risk it again, at least not this year.

thanks
