Green Day Gecko Get Really Thin

beuz Nov 30, 2003 10:16 PM

Hello

I ve had 2 babies gecko for now 6 months. I put them both in a 60 gallons container, 35degree celcius day (10h/day), 28 during night, have also one of those abbamist, live lizard plant, fake plants for hiding (full of it). They were both doing fine and growing really good until a month ago.

I don t see them feed no more and they get really skinier and skinier day by day.(they have a choice of baby food, crickets, and worms).

Anybody would have an idea on the problem please?

Hey,

Ive noticed my (and other geckos aswell) tend to slow down with their feeding as winter is approaching. Could this be it?

Good luck,
M.N

Well

I went to see the vet directly cause it really seemed bad. She said that is the usual bone disease at the 6 month-1 year age. Not enough UV B's. Went to buy more UV'bs bulb. Unfortunately, one of the two is sicker than than the other one and I don t think he's gonna make it.

The symptoms were the following:
- loss of apetite
- stayed a lot on the floor (bones not strong enough to climb, or even sometimes to support own weight)
- dehydration of the skin (all soft and pale)
- gecko not moving a lot

The vet gave me special food&drink I have to put in their mouth.
She said that they didn't lack calcium (D3) vitamin, but that they were not enough UV'Bs for them to process this calcium (over D3 tend to do damage as well). Since I had a vet in front of me, I asked her what was the best temp & humidity for them. She simply told me that since they were from Madagascar, check the weather in madagascar. Thing I did, and I saw that the numbers were far different from the some who give "care sheets" websites.

Thank you for your answer
