Corns in the movies!

Jonah Dec 01, 2003 08:31 AM

I rented the movie Adaptation starring Nicholas Cage last night. About ten minutes into the movie they were showing a jungle scene in what I believe was supposed to be Borneo. The camera pans down to the damp, foggy, jungle floor and slithering across the leaves they focus on what appeared to be an amel corn. I cracked up. I guess it escaped and hopped a charter flight from the U.S. Anybody else see this movie?

LOL Yeah and that Red Tail Boas are native to the Dagobah swamp(Empire Strikes Back) or the fact that every jungle echoes with the sound of loons.

That is hilarius! It never even crossed my mind while watching the movies, but now that you said it, I do hear loons in almost every one! I'm from MN and hear loons all the time while at the lake, so I must have just "expected" them to be in the jungles too

If they're not using loons its the Cookabura bird (spelling) from Australia. And for misplaced animals there is a camera commercial I see every once in a while that shows a green iguana in a desert.

So that's what those jungle bird calls are!

As for snakes in the movies, I just watched The Mummy Returns last night. Right near the beginning the female lead was exploring an Egyptian temple or tomb or something and runs into a Sinaloan milk snake. LOL!

And for snakes misidentified and out of place, I've never seen anything to beat Raiders of the Lost Ark.

fly if they can have enough running room on the water.....wen they set down on a small pond they become stuck at times.....

(don't ask me how they ever get out?)....

.....Yes...loons live in every place in the world with horror creatures and any ind of woodland or pasture...........

.......movies are notorious for being out of place with animals......

.........I love when boas attack and have a rattler sound.......

I remember an old James Bond movie with Sean Connery where a "highly venomous" snake crawls out of the tub spout into the tub. I was a speckled kingsnake (L. getula holbrooki)-LOL!!

for most movies, comercials etc. that isnt' actually a documentary about the native wildlife, most would use any reptile that isn't dangerous to the cast or crew, easy to handle, and easy to get. Also, is alot easier to ensure no harm befalls it. Safety is always the main priority in filming..safety for the crew, cast and the animal used is considered. No point putting in venomous snakes in a jungle scene if it bites the actors and puts them in the hospital for a month. Production company would lose more money that way, maybe even the actor, delays in production etc..when a corn or king snake would do just as well instead of a coral snake. Anybody with some knowledge of animals etc would spot it as being out of place...but the majority of people wouldn't know the difference.

i dont mean to be a smart @$$ at all but did you see the croc hunter movie he used venomous snakes there. but then again this is a completely diffrent thing. like i said not trying to be a smart @$$ just thought i bring ti up. steve irwin also had a lot of crew members from his zoo thier to insure no one got tagged.

I saw a movie that had some weird snakes on the cover, definitly red tail boa bodies with cobra heads and hoods. Once there was a whites tree frog in someone's back yard in california or something on a tv show.
