Pic of new Duck shelfliner

Pick is a little dark, but you can see how nice and clean the shelfliner looks in a tank.
That's a blue color roll in the front of the tank. I think I like the sand color best though. I just love this stuff. I placed it in the tank and cut to size w/ with an exacto knife, really easy.
Duck Shelfliner, Walmart, $4.97 for 48x20 (also comes in 12"width)

Looks great Christy. How is it cleaning up for you? Any problems with it staining? Someone posted last week that their dragons poop stained it. I had it happen maybe once or twice and I've used them for over a year already. It comes off in the soak when I wash them every two weeks. All the poop and germs is off of it it's just the chlorophyll or food dye in the pellets and greens. Stays really nice if you spot clean daily with a spray bottle and moist paper towel. Mine stay spotless with just the daily spot cleaning. Never had such nice looking cages . It's also a really great idea to leave a little overlap going up the walls a bit. This makes it a little more difficult for the dragon to scratch it up, and also makes it much easier for cleaning up dry pieces of greens or pellets cause you can just roll it up and dump the loose stuff in the trash. Looks great though, and nice and clean too. I think your dragon has the same plants as my Buddy does. Hope it works out well for you.

It cleans up great. This is thicker then the original shelf lining I was using. It's nice and cushy/spongey, yet nonabsorbant.

I changed my dragon's cage to shelf liner on Friday, thanks to your suggestion. It's only been a few days and now I can't ever picture myself going back to anything else! It's so much easier to clean, even my boyfriend has taken to wiping up the poop as soon as he sees it (which he never did before!)

Is it easy to clean? I'm all ways looking for easyer subtray.

It's super easy to clean. I'm changing my ball python cage over to this as well. Can't believe I wasn't using shelf liner sooner!

If you spot clean daily already it is a great choice, but if you have a busy schedule and can only clean the cage once every few days it is not a good choice cause the poop stays on top. For people who already spot clean it is great. With a particle substrate you can spot clean but there is always the liquid that gets left behind and can be ingested by the dragons. Yuck!! This stays nice and clean with a spray bottle and paper towel, and is very sanitary as there is nothing left behind to soak into the substrate or get onto the food. I just soak them in a light bleach solution every two weeks or so rinse real well dry and reuse. What I like about it the most though is that the feeder insects can't get under it and hide especially if you leave a bit of overlap on the sides. Same ease as the repti carpets, but it's easier to clean, bugs can't get under, and poop does not soak in to infect feeder insects. It has like a non slip backing it's not adhesive but the texture of it really holds nice and flat to the bottom of the cages. I find it much easier and cleaner then sand, and sand changes, and much cleaner then the carpets.

Do you guys use the shelf liners with the adhesive on the back or the ones that have foam padding.

Mattman Dec 01, 2003 12:54 PM

No adhesive at all. It's not sticky but the texture of it holds well to the bottom of the cages. It's called non slip shelf liners.

Looks nice. I might switch sidney to shelfliner when his sand runs out. Well, it depends. Today he was having a licking fit. He was licking everything in his tank (might be because he was brumating for a week and woke up to see what was going on). If he does it again then I'll probably do the shelfliner thing. I like the look of sand, but one thing I don't like is that it's not a hard surface, so it's harder for him to move around on it.

I just keep changing my mind.
