This is the new tank I got for sidney last month. I think I have buyers remorse, because I already wish that I had been able to fit the 4' version. He seems to like it though, and he makes good use of the space. I hope these pictures work.

This shows what the top is like. The whole setup is basically like a really nice fishtank that was converted with vents to be used for reptiles. It's an oceanic systems lizard lounge.

This is sidney brumating earlier today.

Here's the look he gave me after I woke him up from brumating. He hasn't gone back under his log yet to continue his brumation, but I think he will do it again when winter officially starts. Sidney is 17-18" long right now.

where did you get that beautiful cage?
I got it at a local reptile place. They're pretty expensive though. usually just the tank and canopy will cost you about $200-250 for the 3' version, and $250-300 for the 4' version. It makes for a great looking display tank, much like a beautiful aquarium would, which I think was one of the main ideas behind it. Go to www.oceanicsystems.com and see if there's a dealer near you. If not, you could probably find a way to order one or have a local petshop order you one.
But the one downside is the size of the top door. But, if you're just using it for a docile bearded dragon, it's fine. Then again, if you need more space to get a reptile out or a water dish or something in, you can move the flourescent and open up two folds.
I recomend one if you have the money. you can get a 50 gallon one which is the equivalent of a 40 gallon breeder, the 70 gallon which is the one I have, which is 36" long x 18" deep x 25" tall, or the 90 gallon which is basically the same as a standard 90 gallon (just basically the 70 but a foot longer).
I like it better than the standard glass aquarium. The glass is slightly tinted too, so bright basking bulbs aren't as bright on the outside as on the inside. The downside about the incandescent light though is that it's plastic, so it can only hold up to 100 watts (which is more than enough to heat any of them, since they are insulated well), and you can't use ceramic heat emitters, and I'm not sure if you can use the active uv bulbs.
Wow, thanks for all of that info. I think I may just stick with what I have. I have a 40 gallon breeder for our one juvenile with no plans of getting another. Velcro has plenty of room to roam and has lots to do in it. I think it is hard enough to get him out of the current one, considering that it is a critter keeper and the screen has to be pulled off completely to get him out. He isn't real keen on the idea of getting out of his cage....likes to run from us. Stinker!!!
yeah, that's the tank I used to have. I wanted to get sid a bigger tank, but I didn't have space for a 4' one, so I started looking at my options and this one seemed like a good one. he's always been really laidback, so he doesn't usually mind coming out.
Do you have any pics of your setup?
later
unfortunately my dig camera is broken....waiting til xmas to get another one
Since I can only fit 6 pictures in my kingsnake photo album, I changed one of them with this better one. Here's sid hanging out in his new tank.
