kyla123 Jun 01, 2003 10:51 PM

Today when I picked up my corn snake I noticed that you could see into the opening of the cloaca, and it looked all juicy and pinkish. I also saw what looked kind of like hemipenes. Also some liquid came out and i wiped the drop with a kleenex. the fluid looked clear. after a couple of minuites the cloaca closed and lookes like normal.
help please nothing like this ha ever happened before!!!

The next time the shuttle lands, lets all get dressed up in ape suits and charge at the astronaughts yelling and ranting. That way they can try to figure out where they took a wrong turn.

today it happeded again. WhenI picked him up his cloaca seemed loose. And as I examined him the inside of the cloaca seemed inflamed and a tiny amount of pinkish/opaqe fluid oozed out. This does not seem like a snake going pee because it is such a tiny amount of fluid and I have not seen anything like this in my other snakes ever.

To me it sounds like a benign thing occuring. But then again I'm not a veterinarian nor can I magically see your snake from where I live.

Forums and the people that inhabit them can only help so much. We're mostly just a tool to gauge whether or not it's something serious enough to seek medical attention, and give useful advice about all things snakey in this case.

But if you're that concerned about your snake, get an appointment for it at reptile veterinarian (if possible) and get it checked out. Yes you'll pay, but at least you'll have the peace of mind to know what is exactly going on with your snake. Just remember that whole "ounce of prevention.." proverb, and you'll do fine.

A couple of questions... Is this an adult, male or female, and if it is a male are you handling him right after (or even near) a female.

If this is an adult (or at least sexually mature) male corn and you are handling him directly after or near a sexually mature female, then here is a "potential answer". I have had males get excited, open their cloaca, "extend" his hemipenes, and produce a drop of sperm. Simply because I had just handled a female or was handling him near a females enclosure.

I hope this helps, if not then disregard my rambling, it's late and I'm tired. lol

Later,
Craig
