Western Blue Tongues

arboreals Dec 01, 2003 04:28 PM

I've seen some pics and I'm real interested in the Western Blue Tongues. I know they aren't common so their price won't be cheap. What is their price? Who is breeding them? Any info on care? Thanks in advance,
John

Tiliqua occipitalis is indeed rarely seen in our hobby. As a guideline for prices, last I heard at a recent reptile show somewhere in the midwest (I'm not sure about the city) someone paid several thousands for a sexed pair. I'm not surprised -- they seem to be next to impossible to find for sale. I do not know of anyone who is breeding them, and believe me, I've looked!
Their care is virtually identical to that of T. scincoides. That is, they require low humidity, an omnivorous diet, and moderate temperatures.

There is a breeder in Germany.
The sexed pair, Edward mentioned was probably from their offspring.
Edward, you are right: they are extremely expensive, like T. multifasciata and Trachydosaurus spec.
But in some aspects they are very different from T. scincoides.

Who is the German breeder? Do you have his contact information?
How do you think T. scincoides and T. occipitalis differ?
Excellent photos of your shinglebacks. I'm VERY jealous!
Thanks.
