f/t to live to f/t?

cornsrule Dec 01, 2003 05:31 PM

I've always fed my three corns f/t food. A friend of mine is going to keep them over Christmas, and he wants to feed live at least once just to watch. They're eating fuzzies, so I don't think there's any danger to the snakes (please tell me if I'm wrong), but I was more concerned about the snakes losing interest in f/t fuzzies after having eaten them live. I don't want to have to hassle with converting them back if they become picky. Has anyone ever experienced this?

there should be no trouble as long as it is done only once or twice. My younger corns especially are not bothered if it is live or frozen b/c sometimes i will feed a live pinky if my friends want a "show" and mine don't have problem going back to f/t. It is still ultimately up to you to decide as they are your corns and your friend should respect that.

Does your friend get off watch a helpless animal be killed. People ask me to let them watch my Boa eat. It may only be a rodent but it is or was a living animal. i figure they deserve some respect. will your friend be able to stop pulling wings off of butterflies long enough to watch the snake eat. finally got my red tail to eat F/T after 20 years. yippe

Yes, Some snake will go back and forth with no problem, usually hatchlings, but some will become picky and will only want the live. There isn't much excitement in watching a hatchling eat a pinkie anyway. So if you do not want to be hassled with a picky snake I wouldn't recommend it.

There shouldnt be any problem with this, as I do this sometimes when I run out of frozen mice.

The only thing is, does your friend have a morbid fascination? Its a part of nature in the wild and isnt easy to watch a full grown black rat snake kill a prey item. (squirrel, bird) But to want to watch a snake eat a live fuzzy just for entertainment?

But that is your call, as it is your snake.
