Now that's not one you see an albino of every day. Very impressive. Randy W.
Hey Jason, that's one magnificent animal.
Jason,
beautiful animal, I looked at those several years ago and could not find any background info. on them. Do you know where they originated, who collectted the original animals etc.
thanks,
John
I dont know any thing on the background of these albino Capes, I think Steve Weissman produced the first ones .
I kind of stumbled on to this Albino Cape and got him in a trade from Gregg Feaster .
Jason
It is ashame John that there hasn't been more background information on them. They do come from Steve Weissman at Santa Cruz Reptiles. My normal capes come from Steve Weissman. The best thing would be to contact Steve Weissman if you haven't done so already. Steve's founding stock came from the Fresno Zoo. Steve says that the albino came out of a clutch of one of his founding stock. I didn't get any albinos several years ago because I didn't originally think they looked that nice. Go figure. I was going by a picture Steve had on his website which didn't look that great in my opinion. He was only selling hets at the time. I've noticed over the last year several picture posts and they are really nice looking. I like them so much, I also have picked one up in a trade with Gregg Feaster this past season. I would think Zoo stock would have some verifiable records on them. I never took it past talking to Steve. Here's one of my normal capes from Steve. He doesn't have the albinos any longer. He needed the room for his boas that he works with and they are his bread and butter snakes.

Zoos can only be trusted as far as their keepers and cage set-ups can be trusted. For xample, I've seen as many as 5 Pituophis melanoleucus spp. in one community cage together in a zoo. If a female Northern Pinesnake in that group turned up gravid, an ignorant keeper (many are!) would call the babies Northern Pines assuming that they were becuase she was OR that she "must" have bred with the Northern Pinesnake in the group when she may have bred with one - or more! - males of the other species in that group.

Thanks for posting that point on Zoos KJ. I imagine their record keeping could have holes in it to. Record keeping from a standpoint of where the animals came from and where they went.

different then what we usually see. I'm glad you like that guy, he was a holdback but when you mentioned wanting one this year i decided i didn't need quite as many, lol. I have plenty of them around here still.
Have a good one Jason, and thanks for sharing the great pic.
