"It's not a matter of IF...but WHEN" ~Bill Haast~
"Joy unspeakable...to be holding death in your hands..."
There are a few sources that will say that iguanas are occasionally insectivorous (will sometimes eat insects in their natural habitat). But I have seen no reliable evidence to support this. Green iguanas are strictly herbivores; they eat nothing but plants. Some other species of iguanas MAY eat other stuff in the wild (I understand that iguanas in parts of Mexico are like scavengers, rummaging through trash and eating just about anything they can find).
Iguanas, if given a chance, may eat just about anything. I've given mine small tastes of things like chicken, hamburger, french fries, ice cream, etc. in the past, just to see if they'd eat it. Sure enough, they'll give it a try. But that kind of stuff is NOT good for them, and in sufficient quantities could cause potentially serious health problems. So what I did is NOT recommended, at least on a regular basis, and I no longer even tempt mine with anything other than the stuff they should be eating.
