Temp to hot?

cabbagerun Dec 01, 2003 10:08 PM

im new to bearded dragons but I have done a little research before getting one. My question is do beardies regulate their own temps? In other words if my basking light is too hot will my dragon let himself cook or will he move to cool down? right now I have a 75 gallon long tank with a 60 watt light bulb in it. The bulb stays on top of the cage and he sits on a piece of driftwood 4-5 inches from the light. The temp on the wood is about 115-120F. I use a night bulb (blue bulb) which only maintains about 80-85 F. Any suggestions?

Yes, that's a bit too warm. Can you lower the basking spot?
A surface temp of 115-120 may burn your beardies tummy, they don't feel the heat on the tummies. That's why hot rocks are a huge No-No.
