What's the best bait to use in mouse traps?

MissHisssss Dec 02, 2003 01:42 AM

You know... the old fashioned wooden types? Occasionally wild mice get into my house and I wanna get rid of them. I use D-Con but some seem to not like it so I have to resort to the traps. Any suggestions of a really good bait to use to draw them to it?

Thanks in advance

so do really fresh "gum drops"..

or even a small piece of 'bacon'..

ive used all 3 with good success in the past

Sartori is right on. I had feeder mice escape occasionally in my car . I tried different foods. I then got the peanut butter and 5-20 minutes later go look and bam dead mice..

I occasionally have mice escape in my mouse room or even get wild mice in there sometimes. The problem is there is no lack of food in the mouse room. I have bags of lab blocks, spilled grain, what ever even when everything is cleaned up there is still plenty of food to feed a stray mouse.

What is not readily avaliable is water. Except for the water in the automatic dripers there is no water in the room. At the feed store I buy a mouse poison that is mixed with water and set out in a small bowl. I have found it works better than anything else I've tried.

Ok... peanut butter it is. And the water thing sounds good too. I do leave water out for the wild mice so they won't chew a hole in the water line to my washing machine (AGAIN). To lace it is my next project. Thanks ya all.

Peanut Butter works well but if it is not consumed fast enough, it dries out. Try chocolate. I have had amazing results with it

Hey.... nothing touches my chocolate man!!!!!!! Only kidding. That sounds like a good idea too. I have about 5 traps set right now, but none have been touched. Something definitely has died though, so I guess the D-con worked after all. Now I just have to locate the body, which is why I'm slowly becoming more fond of the old fashioned traps, even though it means seeing squished heads with popped out eyes. ULK.

Thanks Ya All...

Peanut butter works well for me. If you have trouble with the mess of standard traps, they have enclosed traps. They cost a little more but all that you see is the tail. Just click and drop the mouse in the trash and the trap can be used over and over again.
