Texas Alligator Lizards

lazandlouie Dec 02, 2003 02:55 AM

I was just wondering does anyone know anything about Texas Alligator Lizards? Do they get along with each other? Any basic information will help. Will Tx gator lizards get along w/regular alligator lizards? Thanks for anything, everyone!!

I have 3 currently (1 adult pair and a juvenile).
The adult pair seems to get along fine (they have copulated multiple times). I have no idea if they would get along with other species of alligator lizards...I would probably advise against it because of the fact that their range does not overlap
with any other alligator lizard (except possibly some Mexican species) and its usually a good practice to only keep sympatric species together (except of course species which prey on each other). Hopefully I will have some eggs in the near future from my female. I hope this helps a little.

If you go to the Old Alligator Lizard Forum Archive (follow the link and run a search), you will find a great deal of information about this species posted by some very good sources a few years back; more than you will find in any printed source.

In general, Texas Alligator Lizards are fairly laid back, antagonistic behavior occurring only between adult males during the breeding season (Sept -- Dec; a good way to sex them, by the way).

Remember, however, that these lizards can and will eat other lizards significantly smaller than themselves, Anguid or not!
