New skink owner. Need help identifying.....

Mermaiden Jun 02, 2003 01:42 AM

I purchased a skink over the weekend at a reptile show. They called him a rainbow skink, and said that they originated from Africa (captive born). I've looked at numerous websites and photos but can't find anything like this skink. I even tried to find books at a few local pet shops to no avail. I want proper identification as my starting point so I can be sure I'm caring for him properly. I tried to obtain as much information as I could think to ask about from the sellers, but they were packing up and there are some things I didn't think to ask that they didn't think to tell me.

The image at the top of this forum looks just like him!
Here are a couple photos I took of him:

Thanks in advance if someone can tell me exactly what this lil' guy is.

There are quite a few sites for info on them. Here's just a couple:

It IS a beautiful skink.
Is this the first skink u have kept? If you're like me, you will be utterly besotted right from the start...I have a baby BTS and she is so docile and easily handled.

Yeah, he is my first. I've had some anoles before in the past but I was really too young to know what to do with them. This is my first "real" reptile. I've read a lot of stuff now, so I feel okay in what I know. (Time will tell I guess, eh? He is fine with being handled, but wasn't much by the breeders so he's just a little skittish. He doesn't seem to mind at all though.
