Prairie X Northern?

HerpHelmz Dec 02, 2003 03:25 PM

Hi,
I was gonna breed Prairie Ringneck Snakes and let the babies go around Pittsburgh where there are Northern Ringnecks in hopes of the babies reaching sexual maturity and breeding with Northerns. would that even have been possible?

i don't think it's wise to EVER release non-native snakes into the wild! both for the animals and the locale guys.lol "does anyone feel a storm coming on?"-smokey

I admit I am not big on hybridizing, but I deal with it. That I can not deal with. That is just as bad as people releasing burmese pythons, expcept that burmese pythons do not have the possibility of breeding with our native wild snakes. Can praries and northerns breed? I don't know, but if they can, I do not want to see a full locality wiped out by releasing non-natives. I feel hybridizers and non-hybridizers alike can agree on this. It is probably illegal as well. Just sounds like a troll to me.

A bit of advice. Don't go suggesting you are going to intentionally release non-native animals into the wild. If that's not criminal, it should be. And it gives ammunition to those who are trying to prevent us from developing domestic breeds of snakes. Maybe you shouldn't try raising snakes or turtles. How about chickens or turkeys or something that has zero chance of going feral? I think a turkey would make a real nice pet for you.

Doc

p.s. If you are a troll as some of us suspect, don't bother to reply.

He isn't a troll. I have spoken to him before. I think he is just a bit misguided about what he wants to do. Andy

It's illegal to release non-native wildlife to the wild in Pa. Click on the the question " I bought a turtle from a pet store..." in the following link.

Possible ? Well I'm sure it is possible. STUPID- Definitely. Why would you ever want to release an animal into somewhere where it is not naturally found. There are so many reason as to Why you should not to this. Look up info about the Florida Panther or the Bull Frog and you will see what I mean...Scott
