Dark import color query...

SRX Dec 02, 2003 05:25 PM

The above pics are of dark imports. I was wondering what all the BRB's of the past few years that were imported turned out to be after a few sheds? Has anyone successfully bred any animals like these in the pics? If so, what did the juveniles look like?
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks for your time,
Scott

Scott,
The first two pics look like the same snake to me (but I'm not sure); pre and post-shed. That size snake probably won't change too much (if at all) and is a handsome specimen. The others look like adults and other than a shed, probably will look similar. The last one looks like a lighter variation. I could only guess what possible babies would look like but similar looking adults would probably produce mostly similar looking babies (though I've heard a liter can have different color variations within it). My adults are different color variations and the liter had roughly about 2/3's darker specimens and 1/3 lighter (the male is the darker snake). I kept one of each and am eagerly awaiting how they turn out.

...that I believe is an import, and was very dark when I received him. I say believe, because even though I was told otherwise, his behaviour leads me to believe he is wild caught.

Anyway, as I say he was real dark at first. I received him (with another similar male) with a female I really wanted (who incidentally DOES act like a captive raised animal and is simply amazing to look at).

This male shed yesterday, and boy what a difference a couple of weeks makes, and a fresh skin of course! Look at that irridescence! He's still dark, and I feel he will stay like that however.

Remember though, most of the real nice Brazilians in captivity have been selectively bred somewhat.

I don't know what will happen, but I like the looks and color of all those.

Scott,
. Those are pretty good looking for imports. A couple of them are about outstanding. I think you can expect a little improvement in color but an even larger difference in irridescence after they become acclimated. They have some small scars which should at least partially clear up over time. I have bred lots of imports that looked like those and got some very pretty babies in some of the litters. The majority of my breeding stock is either WC animals or their first generation CB offspring.
