Getting a Vision Cage for Christmas...

cito Dec 02, 2003 06:20 PM

I think im going to get a vision cage for xmas this yr. Its going to be for my new 27 inch baby female burm. It is the V432, 54" by 36" by 18" for $329.00. Would this be a good choice? And how long until she outgrows it? Also how would I go about heating these? I see that there is room for one normal lightbulb. Would that be enough or should i put some kind of heat tape under it?

Thats a great choice. A Ball python will never outgrow a model 432 Vision. I recently moved my 3.5 ft Ball to a model 422 Vision and he loves it. Glad to see youre considering using a decent size cage. I never agreed with the common idea of using the length of half of the snakes body as a guage to determine the max length needed for a cage.

My cage is going to be for a burmese python

I often visit the Ball Python forum thats why I got confused and thought you said you had a Ball Python. Yes, a Burm will require much more space after a few years but your cage of choice should be good in the meantime. Take care

Tthat would be a good starter cage and should last for a year or two (maybe even three or four). In terms of heating, I would personally consider a pro product radiant heat panel, OR, a ceramic heating element used in the heat shroud (w/thermostat) and perhaps some heat tape running underneath (also connected to a thermostat). Good luck.

Congrats on that, I got that exact size last year. I keep my boa in that but my burm that is a year old still could fit into it. I would go one size up to the 6ft cage if you can, if thats what you want to keep it in forever. Or I am sure you will end up getting another snake you can keep it in there. As far as heating it goes, I use a 50 watt red bulb in the light spot and then under the tank on the back 3/4 of it I use one of those heat pad things that have the cobra on it, I am not sure what its called but you can buy it at pet co or pets smart. The temp there gets up to 100 degrees on it with out anything over it. Only in the middle of the pad though. I also tape the half of the back of it so the humidity stays up. I like visions they are easily cleaned.

I know what you mean with the cobra heating strip thing, i've seen them at petco. So you tape about 3/4's of your cage and that stays at 100, and what temp is the rest of the cage at?

Its a good range, on the hot spot its 100, under the light its 90-95 and depending on the heat in the house the other sides range from 80% - 90%. She moves around all the time from under the light to over by the front of the cage. She only lays on the heat pad when she eats. My burm that is in a glass tank the heat gets up to 95% because I have turf over it, she lays on that only after she eats as well otherwise they stay off of it. But I was told that if you use some kind of flooring like the I dont know what its called the heat will be dispursed all over because you can move it around. I dont use anything in the vision just easier to clean. But you can use newpaper or that white stuff, I can not think of what it is called.
