what do you mean by 'torn out?' if the dead part of the nail is ripped off or broken - no problem, it will grow back fairly quickly. this is quite a normal thing to happen.
on the other hand, if the ROOT of the nail is torn off, then it may not grow back at all or will be deformed. this is an actual wound, and will bleed profusely, and could also get infected.

Well, he hasn't bled from there. so I'm guessing that the roots have not been torn out.
