The dry ice is really just for shipping pourposes. I usually just put it in the sink and let it"melt"away. You are wise to choose feeding frozen instead of live. Not only is it safer for your herps, it can be much more economical, especially of you're buying in bulk.

Im very new to this , but I bought 20 frozen pinkies for $5 at a reptile show . I keep them in a spare MINI fridge ( freezer part ) and thaw as needed. If you have any access to reptile shows near you , this is your best bet for price. I have found that local petstores near me in Cinci , Ohio sell frozen also. The bad part is that they are expensive . Almost $1 for 1 pinkie , thats insane. but buying 20 at a time gives me a few months til I have to get to another show. Good Luck !

I buy from Cajun Mice. My kids and I take the dry ice, put it in a pan of water on the floor, and cavort around in the resulting "Swamp of Death" until it's all gone. The kids can't wait for the next batch of mice to come in!

Hehehe...

I bring the dry ice over to my parents' house and my dad gets to play with it...

i was going to get 100 small pinkies and 50 weanlings, so that would be 50 for each snake..is that too much? can frozen mice "go bad" in the freezer? also, how much room would this take up? one more-this would cost 60 bucks(20 for shipping, and 20 for each bag) is there a cheaper way? thanks.

That works out to 0.40 per mouse which is certainly cheaper than the pet store. 50 weanlings will take up about the same amount of space as a couple of T Bone steaks. I try to not keep more than 6 months supply on hand at a time. You can probably keep mice in the freezer longer than that but it would be better if you didn't have to.

To get mice cheaper than that the trick is simple, buy in bigger quanities. The price of the mice will go down and your freight cost per mouse will go down as well. The down side is then you have to buy more snakes. Then you need more mice. Then you need more snakes, mice snakes mice snakes.......help I can't stop.

Ofcourse the cheapest solution of all is raise your own mice.

If your like most of us on this forum that will change. I too could once say I,ve only got three snakes. Now I've got 22. They are the most addictive thing I've ever come across. My mouse man Otis delivered four bags of mice to my house yesterday. Buying in bulk is the only way to go.
