Hey Second_hand_rose,
Are you from Saskatchewan? That's where I live and I would be interested in talking to you about where you get food for your cham.
Thanks,
Meemee
Yah were in Saskatchewan. Saskatoon to be exact. I get my crix from World of Pets (he gut loads them for lizards) they're a little more pricey but worth it. I get crix sometimes from Petland when I cant make it across the city in time. He closes at six and I dont get a ride till after 6 sometimes. Petland carries the waxie, butter worms, super worms and maybe the king worms. I cant quite remember off the top of my head so I get those there cuz I feed them mostly as treats or the occasional switch from crix.

I live in Saskatoon as well and I've been getting bugs from Petland (100 crix at a time which I gutload and superworms, but then I like insects so that helps). Is World of Pets in Lawson Heights? There's very few places here that have crickets, actually there's very few pet stores here.
I've been reading about everyone getting silk worms for their chams but I haven't figured out a way to get them shipped here. They'd be totally frozen by the time they arrived! I may order some in the summer to try them out. Have you ever ordered them?
Thanks!
Meemee
Yup its in lawson heights right near that school with the green roof. Its where I bougth my Sanchoz (8 mnt old Veild) we paid too much for him but I love him anyways.
Petland has great price on crix its just that a hundred at a tim you have to do way to much work to gut losd them, they smell and bother me so I get a few at a time from World of pets.
I havent found any good petstores around here either Petland is good here compaired to Calgary where I used to live but its pricey. Do you recomend any good stores other than these 2?
I've never given Sanchoz silkies, and I cant find them here in the city. I dont have a credit card or I never ordered online - plus you'd have to get bulk and that means alot of bugs.

what Cham/Chams do you have? any other pets?
I haven't had any luck with pet stores here at all (I've been here for 4 years). I've been to Speers on 8th St., just out of desperation (when Petland's run out of crix, or I haven't had time to run to Confederation) but for the most part it sucks, crappy service too.
I have a male veiled who is 9 months, a gold skink and a couple of cats. Our skink has never been a problem to feed, she'll eat anything we throw into her tank (including our fingers if we're not careful!). We got our veiled in BC this summer (way cheaper) and just love him, he's such a baby.
If I come across anything as far as pet stores I'll let you know. Thanks for the info.
Meemee
Almost forgot, I was in Petland last week and they had a big male veiled that must have been about 2 years old. I got to hold him and he was so incredibly placid I couldn't believe it. I was so tempted to get him!
I was temepeted to get one of those babys they had there when they had 32 of them, and they were only 50 bucks. So tiny and cute we were thinking about getting a female for our Sanchoz but decided not to because of "setup" prices.
We currently have Sanchoz our Veild, a cat, a rottweiler, and 2 budgies. Nothing too exotic unless you think budgie are lol.
I bought crix from Spears once, hate that place I only bought 12. I put them into Sanchoz's cage and half of them died, by the end of the day. I got worried thinking Sanchoz would get sick from the ones hes ate. but he was fine thank god. Did you see those tiny tiny cages for the birds in the back? SAD!!!! 4 cockatiels in a tiny 2X2X2 feet cage with only this one perch hanging in the middle ... damn pet stores.
I tried going to A-1 aquarium but they were no good either (thats in Market Mall) I dont know if they have crix or not, but they do have some lizards. So I'd imagine so.

I saw those baby veileds too, so cute. The setup price is also what stopped me from getting that big veiled. They were asking $180 for it which isn't too bad except when you add up all the other stuff that you'd need.
Not only is Speers a crappy place but the employees give me the willies, one guy, in particular, is very strange. Any crix I've gotten from there I've kept for at least 24 hours before feeding to my lizards. The quality of them is questionable. The last time I was in there I swore it would be the LAST time. Now I just keep ahead of the game by buying lots of crix at a time. Did you notice the filthy fish tanks? Yuck.
I think I asked about crix at A-1 once and I don't think they had any (I can't remember for sure or not though 'cuz it was a long time ago).
Where did you get Sanchos from? How are your cats with him? Clide (my cham) is in a room by himself so most of the time the cats stay out. It took one of the cats 2 months to even notice there was something in the cage! Good camouflage!
Meemee
We bought Sanchozat World of Pets, we didnt plan on buying a cham just were looking around and there he was so tiny and cute. We paid 130 for him. And I dont regret a penny of it. But weve put a good 3-4 hundrend bucks into a cage and set up for him. And now even more money as we are going bigger yet.
We had 2 cats up until a little while ago. Our youngest cat got outside and dissapered. He was the only one to give our Cham any notice. He tried to sleep ontop the cage but we used a spray bottle and it only took a few tries before he stopped. Then he would try to catch the crix that were in the cage, again we used to spray bottle. the other cat he doesnt care.
He's this big old stray the I found and doesnt do much except sleep and watch the budgies.

I don't know if you'll see this, it's pretty far down on the board, I'll give it a try though.
Clide was around 5 or 6 months old when we got him and we paid $80, which I thought was a great deal. Like you it was all the peripheral stuff that cost money. We also hadn't planned on getting a cham and I'm ashamed to admit that although I probably knew more about chams than the average person I didn't know as much as I should have when we got him. I definitely learned fast! Thank goodness for the internet and all the info that is out there.
Sorry to hear about your cat disappearing. Do you keep your other cat inside all the time? Both of our cats are 'inside cats'. Sometimes I feel guilty about it but then I look outside and see all the traffic and am glad they don't go out.
