Bolivian Amarali scale counts.

Joe K. Feb 08, 2003 10:02 PM

Recently someone posted a very informative page about identifying true amarali by scale counts, post vent. There were drawings and it was very informative. I can't find it in the archive. Can the person who posted repost or direct me to the archive. I have a pair I'd like to check. My female is from the Mark Bell bloodline and my male is from N.E.R.D. Thanks

The tail pic is pretty self explanatory. Start at the vent but don’t count the little “fringe” scales covered by the vent plate, also don’t count any fringe scales on the tip. Easiest to do on the animal because a shed skin gets bunged up at the tip.
amarali: 43-52 (average 48)
constrictor: 49-62 (average 54)

For scale rows, cut out a section of shed skin at the midpoint of the body. Cut the ventrals (belly scales) in half. Don’t count the ventrals, or the couple of transition scales next to the ventrals. (If you look at this picture, there are two scales next to the ventrals which line up with every other row, these two are transition, don’t count them.) With a magnifying glass or reading glasses, zig zag your way to the other side. A sharp pointed object to mark your place helps.
amarali: 71-79
constrictor: 85-89
