Hi,
Glad to hear that everything went well. It is always great whenever we get the chance to educate children on herps. Young minds do not have the normal fears that are instilled in their parents from lack of knowledge. My son's show and tell is this Friday. I was going to take a baby albino burm, and an adult retic. My brother was going to help me in tansporting the animals, well, the retic. I spoke with his teacher and was immediately shot down. I explained that the animals would not be handled by anyone but us, and the large retic didn't even have to get out of his cage. "NO.NO.NO." Every sentence out of my mouth, was interupted by another "NO." She was not interested in anything I had to say. So, I decided to speak over her interuptions. I went on to explain how most snakes are harmless to humans. I said, "I am planning to show the children that being afraid of snakes is not wrong, because some can hurt you, but there are ways we can be friends with snakes. Snakes help to control rodent populations in many regions, and we can co-exist." As I spoke my words were getting louder and louder as her NO's got louder and louder. As soon as I realized we were close to yelling at each other in front of the school with children around, I decided to stop. I have not yet decided if I am going to the school board to see if I can put on an exhibit for them to see as an assembly. I would love to get the chance to go toe-to-toe with the school board, but it is my son that would suffer the most. Oh the delimnas we face, and the sacrifices we make for our children. But when he gets out of school, their butt is mine..... hehehe.
