Cages: Did I Get In Over My Head???

bradmtx Dec 03, 2003 01:17 PM

Well I finally received the 2 used Vision cages (Model 332). They sure look much bigger than they are pictured but are very nice (each came with 2 15" flourescent fixtures). Now I am reading the fine print which states you can't stack them if you use heat lamps? Please tell me its not true. I do intend to use a basking lamp in that recessed lamp hole. I only have space for stacking not side by side. If such is the case I may have to consider relinquishing one. Any suggestions?

The reason for that would more than likely be due tho the heat that is involved. Is there no space between the cages when stacked? If not I'm sure that is it. You could make a platform with say 6 legs, 2 on each end and two in the middle for stability then nail or screw 2x4s together to from the "platform for the cage to rest on. I'd say that you would need at least 12 to 18" of space for heat dissipation. Just make sure that the bottom of the other cage doesn't get hot. I'm sure that one on the other is a fire risk and that is what they are say not to do it. Hope this helps!

That's why we're just about to set off to pick up our brand new Neodesha nesting cages...

Personally, I'm not keen on visions (either for snakes or lizards). They're nice, but can't stand up to the heat anywhere near as well as neodeshas (because of the type of plastic), and I just don't like the feel of them, and the fact that you need to make modifications to them to account for a lot of species (lots of mods if you want to house hots in them, for example).

With neodeshas you might need to make one or two mods to house beardies, but they're very simple mods, and you can stack them great with basking lamps.

I would ask Bennet at Beardiedragons.com or Doug Dix from deerfernfarms.com cause I'm pretty sure both of them stack their vision cages.
