Is this bad?

Okay, nursing a sick turtle and someone just told me that I chould make sure my calsium supplement does not have phophorus in it. I have a product called Retocal and it has a trace amount of phophorus. is this bad?

phosphorus is not necessarily bad, your body still needs it. It is when there is more phosphorus than calcium that you have a problem. Ideally you would have twice as much calcium than phosphorus, the back of the label should tell you the approximate percentage that those two elements occur in the supplement. For the large portion of the turtles diet, it should have more calcium than phosphorus. That is why tomatoes and bananas are not good to give on a regular basis, because they both have a tremendous amount of phosphorus relative to the amount of calcium.
