I have a australian water dragon with a problem

stevel Dec 03, 2003 03:13 PM

Ive had it for months , maybe a year. Its pretty good sized at 6" S-Vent (give or take)

Always shy and wide awake at night. Takes mealworms and crickets, pinkies when hungry. Not as often as my asians though. Im unsure of the sex although it does have a red belly/chest and a good crest on its head only.I think girl , but dont know.

anyways, I just noticed it laying around lately life less.
Today, it may have gotten worse, its laying with paws/legs (all four) out backward lying on chest breathing kinda-like When a human is about to vomit(that kind of motion) with its head. breathing in and poofing cheeks then out.

anyone know whats wrong?

i could post a video if necc.

Could be alot of things. The dragon could have a condition like renal disease or an infection. The best thing you can do is take a siringe or an eye dropper and fill it with water or gatorade, and squirt some water in your dragon's mouth. You can even get baby food, like peas and squirt some with the eye dropper or the siringe if the dragon isn't eating. How long has it been since he took food? They are stubborn animals and will refuse to eat it they have a little feverish symptom. You can call a vet. Good Luck!

I would call a vet. But in the meantime your animal may be dehydrated. Its a good idea to keep it hydrated by giving it some gatorade using an eyedropper or siringe. if it hasn't ate in more than 3 days, i would water down some baby food (pea) and give it some of than. It might have an infection and it needs plenty of fluids and nutrients to fight it off. Plus I'd hate to see your dragon die of dehydration or starvation. The best thing to do is call a vet.

I agree, Hydration is most important at this point. Its sounds like an upper respitory infection. You can deal with it one of two ways or both. First, and the best option, go to a vet and get some antibiotics. Second, Kick the heat way up in the 90's through out the cage. This is dangerous because you can dehydrate your lizard if the humidity or access to water is limited.
