Wierd EYE Question

lazandlouie Dec 03, 2003 04:01 PM

My iguana seems to be doing great but every now and then, not very often, my ig closes his eyes and his eyes look like bubbles, meaning they're puffed up and if i make a noise he'll open and once he closes them again, it wont happen. Does anyone know anything about puffy eyes on iguanas? Its not all the time though. Thank YOu everyone!!

Don't worry, what your ig is doing is completely normal. I'm not exactly sure why but I would assume it is to rest the muscles in eye. Either way I haven't found anything showing that it is harmful.

Myka does this on occasion as well. From what I understand, iguanas will "buldge" their eyes like that when they are itchy. It seemed kind of crazy at first, but I softly rubbed Myka's eyelids when she did this and she leaned right into my hands, so I think it really is just how they try and itch.

I'd be interested to hear another take on this!
