Eye problem with Leo

Falenst Dec 03, 2003 08:21 PM

Hello, need some advice. I noticed my leo shedding tonight, was checking him out, and noticed his eyes seem kinda milky. I took him out of his cage, looked a bit closer, and one definately looks milky, and it almost has what looks like a bubble of air in it. He kinda squints with that eye. The other eye isn't squinty, but it seems a tad milky also. The vet is closed or I would call him about it, wanted to see in anyone has any ideas. I am going to call the vet tomorrow and ask about it.

Could this be a shedding thing? It's been dry (cool weather, everything seems dry) and I hadn't misted his hide this week, so I was worried something might be in his eye, to cause it to get infected, like some skin or something, I dunno.

Hope someone has an idea.

Thanks for listening...

In the pic, the dark spot in the milky spot is what I believe to be the "bubble".

That leo needs a vet ... IMHO (based on 3 yrs experience, 10 adults and countless hatchlings) .. that eye problem has nothing to with a shed.

Well I took Azrael in to the vet this morning, seems he has an eye infection. Dr. gave me some cream to apply twice a day. He said he seems really healthy, but that perhaps he got into something that infected his eyes.

I was wondering Finn, do the "eyelid geckos" have that scale that covers their eyes like crested geckos or snakes? Is it called a spectacle or reticle? Not sure...

No, no scales, but possibly some other coating. Their eyes don't get cloudy before a shed, if you notice.

hello

this happend to one of my geckos resently, or it did lokk the same.
well it looks like a pice of skin is stuck on the eye. and it looked exekly the same on my gecko,
well what i did was that i carefully dripped water in the eye untill it dissapeared. it worked really good.
if this doesn't work, go to a vet! since it may also be another eye problem.

good luck!
tell us how it goes!

I too had/have a gecko with an eye issue. He just kept his eyes closed all the time. It turned out that he had very tiny eyecaps- the part of the eye that is normally shed out. They took a tiny tweezers and pulled out the extra skin, and when he was about to shed yesterday (I know this is bad) but I shed him manually. I made sure to very gently pull his eyecaps out with the rest of his skin. Now he mostly keeps his eyes open and seems better.

How did you pull the eye cap away? I kinda thought about that, but was afraid to freak my gecko out and he would like drop his tail or something.

Was kinda funny, when the vet was handling him this morning, my leo peed all over him. Such a naughty boy! hehe. But it also makes me wonder if my leo can tell the difference in me or someone else. He has never peed on me while I held him.

my geckos have pooped on the vet before, lol.

Something interesting is when my dad or anyone else sticks their hand in my critters tanks they ussually wont come to him or crawl onto his hand, but if I stick my hand in or call their names they will come right out and climb onto my hand. I think they defiently know their owners, or at least the person that feeds them ;-]
