I guess this would be the place to ask.
Has anyone tried the new chat rooms yet?
I find the new room actually slower than mIRC. The new room seems to freeze up kind of similar to aol chat rooms then flood on you suddenly to play catch up.
Being able to customize colors for text and background is kind of nice I guess, but the silly sounds are going to be a big bother since you can't turn them off without also turning off necessary audio alerts.
It is easier now to get to the other rooms on the site without having to try and remember all the names, but I don't know how hard it will be to go back and forth between rooms.
I like private messaging friends during chat but if I can't hear the audio alerts to tell me they sent a response back because I have it turned off due to the clattering sounds of the room itself it's going likely to end up being a royal pain. At least with mIRC if I don't hear the sound I can see the person's name flashing on the tab at the top to get my attention! That apparently does not exist with the new room.
Not sure I have an opinion on the avatar things yet...the selection is definitely not seem geared to herp people.
As far as I can tell there is no easy way to log the chat. You can pull up a 'transcript' but you can't actually save it without having to go to a lot of trouble trying to figure out how to copy the information from that window and paste it to another file. I ended up more frustrated from the effort than successful when trying. If I were to get knocked out of the room -- it's all lost.
Also, there is no way to run pre-made macros/scripts like mIRC provides.
There is the ability to create a profile if that's your thing.
There is the ability to ignore people you don't like.
There is a buddylist thing that I haven't played with yet.
Overall from what I have seen, the room is functional armed with some non-essential eyecandy/toys but it is not worth getting worked up over. A lot of useful features from mIRC are just not there. It reminds me too much of the aol rooms. Grade C
