Layer of skin coming off??

trinacliff Dec 03, 2003 08:54 PM

One of my 3 RES youngsters has what looks to be a thin layer of skin that is floating around still partially attached. I noticed a few small pieces around his neck, then I noticed more tonight on his backside. What could this be and is this normal? If not, what do I do about it?

I tried to touch the pieces on his neck, and he tried to bite me...hehehe. Little stinker...

I have the works...a Fluval 204 filter, 5.0 UVB bulb, basking spot...they are currently in a 20 gallon long...I know I'll need new larger tank as soon as they start getting larger, but hubby won't go for it until later. I feed them Reptomin sticks, with occasional frozen brine shrimp as treats and some anacharis.

Thanks so much

Kristen

Your turtle is probably shedding, which is a sign of growth. Warm water temp makes them shed more. I keep my tank at 75C and I've only seen shedding on mine occassionally.
I also have a 20 G long tank and I got word that my future father-in-law is giving me a Fluval 404 as a Xmas present. Can't wait!

75C...you'll boil the little guys? hehe, sure you meant 75F though, that's about the water temp for Stewie
