Hi everyone,
I am interested in raising up some katydids for feeding to my tree monitors(blues, greens, and blacks). Studies have been conducted which suggest that tree monitors primarily feed upon phasmids(stick insects) and katydids in the wild. Very little or no rodent or avian prey was recorded in their natural diets. I have a bunch of stick insects that are getting big and are starting to drop eggs, but I am really considering on raising katydids as well, however, I have yet to find any supplier, or info for that matter on breeding and raising them. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Maybe my alternate prey items will spark a new approach towards herp feeding...well look at roaches. Go back three years ago; how many people were actually feeding, or even contimplating feeding roaches to their herps??? They keep getting bigger and bigger, and someday they might replace crickets as the foreman of feeders. They don't smell, breed easily, are large, have great nutrition, and are generally easy to contain... As more and more people start breeding roaches, the more people will see their ease, and rewards of keeping them themselves... take care, any help on the katydid thing would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time,
bob mendyk
