Import female AGAIN!

fireresq42 Dec 03, 2003 09:55 PM

I am sure everyone is sick and tired of hearing about my new import female but I have just a few more questions..

I tried feeding her a T/F rat and she would not even look at it so I got her a live one and she seem interested and struck and struck and struck the poor rat was bleeding after about 3-4 strikes, but the bp never grabbed it and wrapped.. Anyone ever have this problem? Is there some thing I can do? Next I'm going to try a mouse.. Next question is she does not look like a normal she has a very green ghost look to her (that’s why I bought her) her eyes are 2 different colors top half is very light and bottom half is dark.. Is there a known morph with this 2-tone eye?

As usual all help is welcome and greatly appreciated!!

Thanks to every one that has responded!!

A.

She is scared that is why she is just striking without constricting. Defense mechanism. Leave her a lone and watch her she will usually tell you once she feels comfortable. If she is in good weight it wont hurt her to wait a little bit to feed her. Hope this helps. In all honesty you shouldn't have gotten her. MHO

Kryolla,
I am starting to agree with you.. I should have stuck to my guns about never buying an import.. But, It is done and I have to deal with it now.. Last night I went in her container to check on her and up till then she has been very calm and let me handle her fine but last night as soon as opened the container she started to hiss and strike repeatedly.. So I closed it and turned the lights out.. I agree she must be scared So I am going to get her another hide today which will make 2 and leave alone for a few weeks.. Funny thing about the hide though she never goes in it but she does sit on top of it when she is not in her water bowl.. Very strange!

Any other advice on how I should proceed with this is much appreciated!!

Thanks,
A

Hi A -

Remember, you have had this girl less than a week. Most snakes take at least a couple of weeks to settle in, even captive born ones. And, half of my captive born females who are completely settled in here are not going to eat again until April! That's how ball's are in the winter. Your pastel may very well go off feed too, but he'll survive.

She is in good condition and could go six months without eating with no problems whatsoever. Relax and give her time. You are doing everything right.

Christy
