P. hernandezi

bast Jun 02, 2003 09:27 AM

Hello All,

I'd liketo get some P. hernandezi because they are cold tolerant. I'd like to keep them outdoors. I am also interested in P. douglasi. Are they also cold tolerant? Some species are only found in hot places like AZ or NM, but are found at considerable altitude.

I'd like to keep them outdoors and attemp breeding them. I like hernandezi because it is a cold tolerant live bearer. I live in south eastern MA. We are no where near as cold as states of the same latitude inland. The ocean moderates our climate. Many winters we do not get snow...only rain. But true to the ultra variable nature of New England weather we got LOTS and Lots of snow this winter.

Any other suggestions?

Thank you,

Brian

That outdoor enclosure is excellent! I would love to have one, but not for horny toads, but for beardies!!! My beardies would love that, lots of grass, dirt to dig up, and some dandilions for snacks! Maybe you should reconsider putting beardies in there instead. I certainly would! If not, give me the enclosure!! Very very nice!

Beardies can't take the winter. That's why I am looking for P. hernandzi. Not only are they live bearers but they are very cold tolerant and should be able to easily take the coastal New England winter. That enclosure has my three blue-tongue skinks in it. Feeding them brings ants so I thought of horned lizards and finally found a cold tolerant species...that seems impossible to get. I know the skinks don't hibernate. They are a proven trio and were given to me free. They bred last year and produced 11 babies.

I really appeciate your imput. You are the only person here who has responded to anything. I may take your suggestion if hernandezi proves impossible to get.

Thank you,

Brian
