Bearded Dragon Injury!

zlapalme Dec 03, 2003 11:06 PM

Hey, my bearded dragon has hurt his left arm...i believe he was jumping off his log for some crickets. Ever since, his body seems to shake when he tries to put alot of pressure on it, but is still able to run around. Also, he hisses when i touch the arm. Ive been told to go to a vet...but i heard the worst case scenario could cost 200dollars (with a possible ampuation or cast). Is there any other sugestions you guys could give me?? If you do it would be greatly appriciated...i need some help. Thanks alot

Take it to a vet. If it's broken and you let it sit it could heal wrongly and potentially cause further problems.

If the bone is cracked or broken, you surely need to see a Vet. It may be shaking from pain (poor baby).
I know it hurts the wallet, but being a pet owner includes being a responsible pet owner.
If you really can't afford it, take your bearded to a rescue facility so it can be treated and not suffer.

GO TO A VET!

It could be a slight sprain or it could be a broken bone. Go to a vet and find out. If it's nothing you can pay a vet 40 bucks and walk out reassured that your dragon will be ok. If it's something then you will have to decide whether you can afford the operation or treatment that will follow...if you can't scrape together enough money together for the operation, you should donate your animal to an adoption agency, someone can afford to save your dragon if it is a problem so don't let it suffer. It is in the best interests of the animal.

I'm probably sounding harsh but you should have thought about costs and vet bills before you got your dragon...all of my animals are checked once a year or as soon as I think there is a problem. They are usually checked right after breeding to assure they are recovering well.

I hope you can grasp some common sense and think about saving your dragon. You should have contemplated your financial situation before investing in a fairly expensive reptile in the first place.

This is just my opinion, I could be wrong.

It's as simple as that. Owning an animal means taking responsibility for it when it gets sick or injured. Sorry if it seems harsh, but seriously, you need to take vet-bills into account when purchasing a pet.

is get it to a vet nothing else will help and our pets are worth the money!

Please do take him to the vet. You have taken the responsibility of purchasing the pet and with that you take on the responsibility of taking care of them. If your leg was broken and you were in pain would you want someone to say that they cannot take you to get it fixed because it would cost to much. If you cannot afford it then please find someone that can. I am not trying to be rude about this but I rescued a beardie in this situation but they left his leg untreated and now his foot sits sideways and he has some adjusting to do when he tries to walk. The vet told me that it has now healed that way and it would cause more trauma to try and correct it and since he has no pain I decided it would be best to leave it alone, no sense in causing pain all over again by trying to reset his arm.

Deffinitely take your dragon to the Vet. If it's a break and it isn't set properly, it would only make things worse for your dragon. Also, it is obvious the leg is painful for him and letting him suffer needlessly is animal cruelity which you can be charged for. So like everybody else here, take your dragon to the vet, be prepared to pay the high price if it's a break that needs to be treated then get it treated. Amputation tends to only be required if the break is so severe, it can't be fixed, or an injury was left untreated for too long, allowing the bone to either heal badly or infection set in.

Take it to the vet ASAP!
