What tends to make an emerald more or less agressive?

phib Dec 03, 2003 11:16 PM

Does having the snake from a very young age factor in on their agressiveness? I guess what Im trying to say is can they be tamed like my american alligator whom Ive spent time with every day since he was born (7yrs) and is even litter trained! Can I do the same with this boa, minus the litter training of course!?!

Please define tame. If you are refering to not having the snake strike or bite during your normal husbandtry routine, then I have found that starting with cbb neos will be the easiest. However, wc, in my experience, will adjust to this level of tameness quite quickly. As I mentioned in my previous reply to your other post, emeralds are not good candidates for excessive handling, they are not BCI and I can imagine the confusion they must experience when a large, heat radiating beast picks them up or tries to hold them.

think of it like this.....snakes don't really tame. think of them as becoming tolerant to you being in their presence, handling them and whatnot. take an amazon tree boa for an instance. they for the most part have a bit of a bad rap. how they're usually aggressive (which is true i suppose)....however mine, although a little bit shady at times, are tolerent of me handling them. every snake is different, so you'd have to get used to the animal...that way you can try to predict what mood the snake is in.
