Pics of my newest additions (not Leos, but really cute)

Lyn Feb 08, 2003 10:07 PM

I have been unable to have ferrets for about 10 years, between living with my parents after moving out of my apartment (where I did have ferrets) and now living with my husband who has never seen a ferret in real life but hates them cuz "all the people he talks to" say how horrible nasty and smelly they are. He finally broke down last night and said I could go gets some (2) ferrets. Now today he's having 2nd thoughts, convinced they are going to bite our cat and smell up the house and who knows what other thoughts are going though his mind. But I already put a down payment on 2 females to it's too late for him to go back on his word

I don't pick them up till next Saturday cuz I'm getting the cage on friday. I took these pics at the pet store really fast cuz I wasn't sure how they'd react to my taking pics in the store. They don't have names yet. I wanted to give them cutsie names like CoaCoa and Marshmellow but my husband flipped and said they can't have stupid names, even though he claims he will not like them he somehow cares what their names are. Go figure.

I posted pics on the ferret forum, but that's a surprisingly slow forum! The last post before mine was on the 5th, then nothing till mine today on the 8th which has been sitting there by itself with no replies.

I'm just bursting to share Hope you don't mind!!! I figure you guys all like cute things and I think these guys are cute. They are about 6 weeks old...

This is the hooded sable. I think she qualifies as a black hooded sable but I'm new to all the 'morphs' so am not sure.

Here she is taking a drink...

Grabbing a bite...

The other one is an albino. She's a bit camera shy...

Sleeping in her ball...

I'm really not strangling the poor thing, just trying to hold her still with one hand while trying to take a pic with the other, not an easy task

Hope you liked the pics. Sorry they aren't Leos!!!

every time i go into the pet store they are the smelliest things in there. i guess if like them and can put up with that smell then good for you. they are sort of cute in a evilish sort of way. i dont mean to sound negative they just wouldnt be my first choice. good luck with them and i hope you enjoy them.

. . . I could leave my collection of 30 geckos in their cages - never cleaning them - for a month - in their racks - pull them all out - open the lids, and . . . .

. . . they would not smell as bad as one ferret.

Sorry - but they are crapping, musking machines . . .

Cute - but stinky!! LOL

Good luck with them.

If this doesn't stop moving, I think I might hack up a cricket!!!

If you keep the cage clean and don't cram half a dozen into a cage big enough for one, they really aren't so bad! They have special liquid to add to their water that helps keep their odor down, and special sprays that help their skin and coat and neutralize the odor too. They are loads of fun, very socialble and friendly little animals. Love people and attention. They can be litter trained like a cat, and can go outside on a little leash to frolic. I must admit I have encountered some 'evil' ones over the years, but they mostly are ones that weren't trained properly as babies. Like puppies you have to teach them not to nip and bite when they are little. I do agree that the enclosures in the stores are a bit aromatic. Luckily the store I went to had their cage pretty clean and it didn't smell, but I could see that being a turnoff.

nice ferrets

Lyn Feb 09, 2003 07:00 AM

I was thinking that my Savannah and my Cat get along fine, and in the past I've had Cats and Ferrets who get along fine, so I was thinking I could let the Savannah and the ferrets out at the same time (the cat always has run of the house of course) and that the Savannah and the ferrets would probably get along fine. I don't mean they'd play or anything, just probably ignore each other. Then my husband said that to my Savannah, the ferrets would look like nice long rats. He eats rats. Hmmmmmmm. Maybe I won't let them play after all, or else these pics WOULD belong on the feeder forum! Then I thought of the way Tigger does eat his rats. He crushes their skulls! They are already dead of course, but that's the first thing you hear when you give him a rat is the CRUNCH of the skull. It's a freaky sound. So I'll do my best to keep these new babies off the reptile menu!!!

Good Luck,

Hi Bruce! Dont' know if I ever shared these pics with you? I think you need some Cresties in your collection, and I think you'd like to trade some Albino AFTs for them This guy (gal?) is just tooooo adorable for words!!

I promise if I get some of the babies that I won't give them to the ferrets as squeeky toys

I'm leaning towards Isis (sp?) as a name for the white ferret. Need a mischievous Goddess name for the dark one. I'm gonna do a search today to see what some good Goddess names are. I don't know many by heart. I'd do Venus for the Goddess of Love since I'm getting them around Valentines day but then I just think of the tennis player. Take care!

Lyn,
I like the pics, good thing I clean my fingernails..lol. Lyn, do you notice the red hue to the eyes on her? I have two eggs from my het AFT in the incubator (2/7/03 laid on date). Randy and I both have eggs from our White Line's cooking and his Crested's are gravid as well as our Leopard's. We're off to a good start. What is the E.T.A. of your Crested eggs?

Bruce

P.S. Are you going to the next meeting? Aaron from Aaron's Tree Frog farm is doing a presentation on making Terrariums.

Lyn Feb 09, 2003 09:14 AM

I didn't notice the red, but will go back and look now that you've mentioned it. My Cresie eggs didn't make it They got all sunken and hard and when I cut them open there was no sign of blood vessels or baby geckos. Either were infertile or I messed up in the incubation. I'm selling my 1.3 Cresties as a matter of fact, as well as my 2.1 Beardies. Hurts to have to do it but my collection just got too diverse, and now with the ferrets they will need so much time and money. My collection will now consist of my Corn Snakes, Gray Banded King Snakes, and Leopard Geckos. All of which I hope to start breeding eventually. Plus the Savannah and Eastern Milk which are just pets, not planning on getting them mates. If you and/or Randy are interested in the Cresteds let me know. Their pictures are on my website. All very friendly. I was thinking the meeting was this Wed and already rearranged my work schedule this week. Thankfully I checked out the site this morning and realized it was next Wed! His frogs are cool but the fruit flies would drive me nuts. Even though they don't fly, they were crawling right out of the tank he had at the open house. But it will be fun to see them and learn about terrariums. You'll have to explain the Gecko Gekko to me, I don't get it?

"Ginny"
