Burmese Brown Tortoises help

dannygood1 Dec 04, 2003 12:17 PM

Anybody have suggestions for increasing appetite of Burmese Browns? I have 2 (wildcaught) about 6" and they eat very poorly. I keep them from 60F-85F, mostly outdoors except when too cool or hot, I keep them wet/moist; have pool to soak in.
Thanks.

Have you done any fecals on them yet?

No, I think I'll take them to a vet pretty soon.

Imported manouria emmys emmys tend to be heavily parasitized tortoises.

Mine were very fussy eaters when they arrived. Get them eating something before its too late. Mash banana, apple, papaya, mango or another sweet scented fruit onto their fine sliced greens (collard greens, dandelion greens, limited kale, limited romaine etc..,). The scent of the fruit encourages them to eat, there should be nutritional greens mixed in the meal. Let them graze in the yard (if herbicide free, pesticide free lawn.)

I took mine to a vet. He did a fecal smear.
The Vet administered injectable droncit twice (two weeks apart).
Once mine were eating , I treated them with panacur paste.

Soak them in luke warm water with Vitamin B12 dissolved in the water. They can absorb moisture thru their cloaca opening as well as drink it. B12 can stimulate their appetite.
Soak them often. Good luck!

Thanks, sounds like some good advice there. I'll take them to the vet pretty soon.
