I have always thought it was similar to beardies, with bulges present and the larger, darker, pores?

I would think that that's true. If you look at their undersides, you can clearly see the presence of the femoral pores and the bulges on the males. I've also seen on some websites that it depends on the species how to tell the sex. Some you tell by the horns and the way they are positioned on the head. But I would think the most accurate way is by flipping the little buggers over.
