Am I supposed to dust the pinky mice with herptivite or calcium?
Nope...not that I know of. If you feed your snakes mice that have been well fed on lab chow things should be fine (or so I'm told). My snakes have been fine over the years without a "dusting" of anything.
Nope. Dusting them with extra calcium can lead to hardened excrement and problems with defecating. Snakes get all the calcium they need from the bones of the prey item, and hatchlings get the calcium from the milk in the pinks belly. Ever wonder why you can see "through" a pinkies belly and it is kind of white/cream colored? Milk.
