Sort of OT.... anyone from Florida??

shortydsm Dec 04, 2003 06:22 PM

I am graduating college in May (6 more months, woo-hoo!) and I plan to move out of NV for sure, but I am debating my options on where to go. Florida is one of them, but I'm not exactly sure which part. I definetely love the beach (I'm a San Diego native) & I love the warm sun. The only part of Florida I've been to was Orlando & I didn't even seen any homes or rural neighborhoods their. To those who are familiar with Florida or live there, what are the best cities to live in, preferably on the ocean, low crime rate, good job opportunities, low tax & somewhere where I can let my lizards have an outdoor enclosure??? Thanks.

Well I am in Saint Petersburg and Have been here for about 3 1/2 years. *LOVE IT* the tampa bay area has a lot of open areas lots of beach areas and with the Ocean on one side and the bay on the other it keeps the temps nice. it's a bit wet here for BS's outside but the temps are good.
in the summer the water temps are like 80 decgrees so beaches are nice. when the air gets to hot in summer it gets humid, rains and cools off.

*IT's HUMID* in summer.... way different from CA summer.

but it's great for tropical plants like orchids

The best places for Job opportunities is in the larger cities, but then you have the higher crime also that goes with that. Thats not the degree usually that you have in the north through either.

Anywhere in FLorida the animals can enjoy the outside usually for about 10-11 months of the year, some days in Dec are too cold and January-Feb also, but its an day in and out type thing, it will drop into the 40's to 50's for a few days to a week and then climb back to the 80's. But inland does have more bugs, so you have to be more careful with them outside.

Although Florida is one state, it is like two areas in one aspect. The Ocean coast is where people from NY, NJ, Ct and those eastern states settle and the personality there is more like the northeast. On the gulf coast side, are the people from the midwest, who just my opinion are more friendly, laid back and considerate of others (I can hear the northeast people screaming) LOL sorry, I was born and raised here and I hate the ocean coast side (except Daytona for the Expos) and Miami is a definite NO NO in the last decade.

Tampa, Jacksonville and other university towns cater more to young adults, were others carter to the older generation. For certain field, Orlando/Kissimmee is the area to go. Anything with graphics, animation, computer and service related thrive well there.
