Sort of OT... to those who are familiar with or live in Florida

shortydsm Dec 04, 2003 06:31 PM

I am graduating college in May (6 more months, woo-hoo!) and I plan to move out of NV for sure, but I am debating my options on where to go. Florida is one of them, but I'm not exactly sure which part. I definetely love the beach (I'm a San Diego native) & I love the warm sun. The only part of Florida I've been to was Orlando & I didn't even seen any homes or rural neighborhoods there. To those who are familiar with Florida or live there, what are the best cities to live in, preferably on the ocean, low crime rate, good job opportunities, low tax & most importantly, somewhere where I can let my lizards have an outdoor enclosure for some nice natural sun, heat & humidity???

You might want to look into the Suncoast area (Brevard, etc).

My iguana is still staying outdoors all day about 1-3 days a week depending on the day itself. earlier this week it was int he high 70s* low 80s and he was outside.

The west coast of Florida is a developing area. I hear Naples and Fort Myers are very nice.

East Coast I found it better, especially beach and ocean-wise.
Since you're young, you will feel more comfortable around Fort Lauderdale or Delrey Beach. Avoid Boca Raton....unless you already have a Ferrari.

South of Florida has the more beautiful waters and beaches of all, especially the Keys.

If you stick close to Miami (Fort Lauderdale, Delrey Beach, West Palm Beach etc) you also have many airports for national/international flights. Orlando is way too in-land, and gets very humid, not to mention full of mosquitoes. The closer to the ocean, the less mosquitoes.

Good luck with ur studies and finding a place of your own.

I don't know what jobs you're looking for, but the Florida Keys sounds pretty close to what you want. I grew up on Key Largo.

I live in Melbourne Fl. About an hour S.E. of Orlando. It great here and it is close to the beach. Plus there is a great exotic pet store here with everything you could need for Iggs. They have some of the healthiest Iggs. I have ever seen. Good luck with you move, where ever you move.
