feeding anoles....

dynomite Dec 04, 2003 08:07 PM

have any of you guys ever fed your monitors anoles? i've never fed lizards before but i got to thinking that maybe my timor would enjoy the chase.... and if he's not interested it might look cool to have an anole in there... at least when i look in the cage i will see something lol. are there any health risks to putting an anole or 2 in the cage? see what you guys think. also thanks again michelle for your response to my last post, it was REALLY helpful... and insightful.

thanx

Anoles are almost always wild caught, meaning they're carrying the usual assortment of worms and protozoans. Basically not something I'd want my Timor eating. Not that he would unless the anole were dead (he's a bit special).
But, yeah... unless you buy a CB anole or get one and deparasitize it yourself, I wouldn't risk it. I'm trying to imagine the amounts of non-fun I'd have if I had to medicate my Timor. OUCH.

yeah you make a good point, a can't believe i had not thought of that factor, probablky cause they are primarily a feeder species.
oh and by the way i was reading one of your posts on the general lizard forum, you mentioned that caiman lizards were your favorite, but you had not seen one yet. they are my favorite too, they are pretty damn cool. if you ever have a chance to come down to san diego, the zoo has two of them (unfotunately they are usually hiding and all you get to see is a tail).

Aargh, that's like 4,000 miles away. Owning a caiman lizard is sort of a life goal of mine, along with a croc monitor and a gila monster. Those are my lizard plans.
Anoles are feeders, but even people with lizard-eating snakes use live anoles as a last resort. Deep frozen anoles aren't quite as bad.
