Rhino Iguanas

WaGuy82 Dec 04, 2003 08:37 PM

Hi everyone! I was wondering if you guys can point me in the direction of where some caresheets would be? I haven't seen any books out on rhino iguanas. Are their care similar to green iguanas? I am just thinking about it, very far from acquiring one. Is there any thing I should know or consider before getting one? From what I understand, they're a lil easier to tame than green iguanas? Also, what size enclosure would I be looking at? Anyhow, thanks for any information you can provide. I familiar with herps and my collection includes two trios of ackies, lots of bearded dragons, and a pair of prehensile tailed skinks, so I do have the basics (uvb) down.

BTW, I did check out David Blaire's article.

Sad to say, David Blair's care sheet for cyclura is the closest thing to a book covering the topic that I have been able to find.
It covers the basic guidelines that most cyclura thrive under.

Care is similar to that of green igs, Cornuta usually considered:
Requiring less humidity
Similar size, but twice the weight
hardier, and more robust.
harder to tame.
longer living.
more challenging.
more active.
long term commitmant.
less predictable.
more rewarding.
Something to think about for awhile before acquiring.
Good luck.

Well said. Particularly the part about thinking about before aquiring.

I have to disagree with just a few. In my experience I haven't found the Cyclura to be harder to tame, more challenging, or less predictable then their Green cousins. I think they may take a little longer to tame but less work in the process and, once tame, they are very predictable. I don't find their care to be more challenging then caring for the Greens but I do find their intelligence kind of daunting at times.

..I'm sure you have owned many more greens iguanas than I.
