i presume ur adding the water cleaner stuff, that takes away the chlorine and all that other stuff... anyways.. its best to let it sit for about 24-36 hours id say, but its not neccesary. Usually by the time it hits the temperature u want it should be fine, i usually wait a couple hours unless i pre-plan water changes. I also put in the water filter and i put the air pump to circulate the water cleaner stuff.

Most municipalities do not use chlorine anymore, which could easily be eliminated by letting it set for a day or two while it diffuses into the atmosphere. Nowadays everybody uses chloramines which must be removed chemically. It cannot be removed by allowing it to sit!!! You must buy chemical additives to remove these chemicals from the water. I highly recommend a combination of Amquel and NovAqua.
