Simbhava Male 1 1/2 yr old stopped eating..Help

emarks Dec 04, 2003 10:33 PM

Mckenzie my beautiful male simbhava stopped eating shortly after introducing him to a female. I keep them visually separated. They did copulate once last weekend. Ever since McKenzie seems less stressed but still wont eat. He does drink though. The last meal he ate, almost 2 weeks ago was super worms. He has had them many times before without issue. He normally eats crickets, wax, meal and superworms. I begrudgingly force fed him a couple of wax worms a week ago but can't bear to do it again. Any ideas? Please!!! Thanks EM

If you're offering him more than a few types of insect and he's not eating, I would have a fecal check done by a vet. You'll need to get it while it's fresh (within 2 hours or so) and either run it to the vet, or seal it good and keep it in the fridge and take it to the vet ASAP (within 24 hrs). I'm not saying there's a parasite problem, but it's worth getting it done just in case. They usually only cost about $10-15.

I took him to the vet. He luckily provided a fresh stool sample for analysis. Still no eating. The vet said although he hasn't eaten for nearly 2 weeks now, that he appeared "healthy". SHe gave him a Vitamin B shot and sent me home with some high protein eukanuba food to be squited into his mount in the event he keeps up with the hunger strike. We'll see next week if he has any parasites. EM

Usually for me the fecal checks take only about an hour..... Hopefully they're not putting it off or sending the sample somewhere else. I'm not sure it can be accurate if it's delayed much, you might wanna check on that. Parasites don't nessesarily make a chameleon look bad or unhealthy. The first thing I've noticed with it is the lack of eating.
