GTP good for a beginner?

DarkPhoenix Dec 04, 2003 10:38 PM

I want to get a boa or python and I like the emerald tree boa and the green tree python. Someone told me the emerald is not good for a beginner and I want to know if a green tree python is good for a beginner. If not what is a good beginning constrictor?

My advice to you is to start with a Jungle Carptet Python. These are similar to green trees in care, but are much more forgiving to temp and humidity fluctuations. They are beautiful snakes and are about the same size as chondros........plus they are about 1/4 the price of chondros. Once you feel comfortable with the jungle carpet, try your hand at chondros. They are awesome creatures. Good luck.

p.s. Pictures like this make it all worth while.

I have Never Owned A Emeral but i have been told the same thing u have. I have had GTP's and unless u have alot of time and enthusiam to mist and continue to monitor temps and keep the enclosure very clean i dont suggest this snake for a begginer, if u do go this way i suggest a Biak i have been told by many people these species are the hardyest and do the best as a 1st time gtp. my other suggestions would be maybe a red tail or a Burm(gets big!) u could go the carpet python route Jungles and Diamonds are very nice. I also have a thing for Brazilian Rainbow boas that do very well for first timers as long as u keep good temps and a good humidity
