Books regarding various reptile pets?

Raydeohed Dec 04, 2003 11:12 PM

Hey, I wanted to expand my reptile collection, and am interested in other reptiles besides leos. Don't get me wrong, leos are great, but I'm just very curious about what else is out there. I'm particularily interested in uros, and beardies. But I want to learn about all kinds of reptiles that can be "pets", just to see what else is there. If anyone can recommend any books (preferably) or websites that have info/caresheets on various reptile pets???

Thanks

The "Guide to a Happy Healthy (thing)" series is a pretty good one, I have both the snake and turtle version.
As far as herp books go, newer is definately better.
Pro Exotics and VPI always have good caresheets.
Or you could just get a Pakistani sand boa to go with your leos.

Peter: It's OK, I'll handle it. I read a book about something like this.
Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?

Ahh, those books sucks, just a bunch of fluff! The AVS seris is better as well as some of the Barrons books written by Bartlett.

AVS books always recommend hot rocks... Otherwise they're pretty good, I use the tarantula book. I've only read one Barrons book.
Fluff can be ok if you just want an overview to a large group of animals....

I'm in the same boat. I'm interested in beardies and uros (more so for Uros...their tales are just awesome). What I've done is go to forums.kingsnake.com and just look through the list of lizard forums. I'd say the list of forums is a list of the more common pet reptiles. Just flipping through the forums and reading various posts is a good place to start. Usually there are tonnes of pics too, and threads labelled 'considering ___ as a pet, looking for advice', so you can read what people have responded, while not looking like a chump and not having to post a newbie thread of your own. hehe

Not a book, but a good place for resources.

I'm looking for books that talk about various LIZARDS as pets, and their care info and husbandry and such. The main, reason I want to find one book that has info about all kinds of lizards is so I can read it anytime, and not have to click a lot of different links....thanks for any help.
