hibernating question

tribbielvr Dec 05, 2003 12:34 AM

Just as I was ready to hibernate my emoryis, my male began to shed. I am assuming I should wait until he is finished, but should I also feed one last time, when he is done, as well?
Thanks
Nina

I would definatly not worry about feeding him one last time before brumating but just make sure it has been at least 2 weeks since their last meal before cutting off their heat source and starting to drop the temp.
Whether I have any in a shed cycle or not, I stop feeding those I intend to brumate on 11/15 at the latest, turn off thier heat source on 12/1 and slowly start dropping the temp in the room over the next week and a half or so to somewhere between 55 to 60 degrees. I leave my snakes in the same set ups they stay in the rest of the rest of the year when they are brumating and they shed if ready with no problems. I would just not change them over to a different kind of setup for brumation with a smaller water bowl or something like that which would lower the humidity especially if they were in shed. Hope this helps.
