treatment for a RES with respiratory infection. Please help.

aurora76 Dec 05, 2003 04:20 AM

Hello,

How to treat a young redeared slider which is suffering from a respiratory infection? It is sneezing and swimming loop sided, but eats normally and is still active. I assume that veterinary help is required, but in this part of the world vets still don't treat reptiles routinely (actually, not at all). Thus, I have to do it on my own. Please, could somebody tell me what kind of medication/antibiotics is usually prescribed, or what can be done to help the turtle survive.
Many thanks for any input!

Are you keeping it warm? Most posts I have seen recommend boosting the water temp into the low 80's for ailing turtles. Hope that helps.

Yes increasing the tempature kicks their immune system. But as far as I know the only way to to deal with RI is antibontics. I hope you gets better. Take care. Shannon
