My son and I were sitting on the couch late last night and we heard a crash downstairs. Sounded like a glass bottle breaking. So I looked at my son and said hmm I wonder what got out. We headed downstairs, treading lightly (no big stick yet). I went in the snake room to make sure all the big snakes were accounted for, they were all there. Checked the lizard and monitors cage, all there. (I don't like dealing with big monitors) That made me feel better. We looked around for awhile and couldn't find anything. So we headed back upstairs and my son said, I wonder what got out, I looked at the dresser at the bottom of the stairs for some reason and said well that ball python right there! How he got out I have no clue, but he did and we found him. So that's my story for the day....LOL. There is never a dull moment around here!

You know those ball pythons................Nothing but trouble. LOL!
Sure, they look cute and innocent..........But, we know what they are capable of. LOL!

My BRB just got out last night. This morning before I go to work I always check on my snakes. Well I looked into my BRB cage and she wasn't there. To make a long story short I found her in a rack behind a tub cuddled next to the heat tape. Its funny everytime my snakes escapes I can always find them in a rack behind a tub. It helps to have a room dedicated for snakes.

You are right, having a snake room is the greatest. Our snake room is big snake escape proof but not little snake. Not to mention sometimes the door gets left open to cool down the temps in the snake room. I think about back when we didn't have a basement and all the snakes were upstairs, I like it better with a snake room...LOL. Now if I could only get Jason to build a building for the rats and mice away from the house, I would be in heaven....LOL. I love my critters and like working with the mice and rats, just don't like their "perfume". Have a good day!

Almost the same thing happened here except my snake room is up stairs. I heard something fall, went upstairs, but when I went to open it the door wouldn't move as if someone was trying to keep me out from inside. I put my shoulder into it & was able to open it a few inchs so I could see inside...nothing, until I looked down, & saw my large female retic coiled up against the door. Apperntly I left one of the latchs of her cage unlached.

Another slighty more serious situation happened to a friend of mine. One of his larger snakes got out in his basement. Doing what snakes do most of the time when they get out, which is look for a warm dark place to hide. So she found just that, behind the tubs of his baby rack, & in doing so pushing all the tubs forward. Now instead of one snake out there was more then a dozen.
Just wanted to share these 2.

About three years ago i was feeding my boas and had got a phone call . well i walked back into my snake room this was mid summer and at the time i had a huge habitat my 1.1 BCI were in. So i proceeded to putthem in and didnt LOCK the door now keep in mind these doors were 5'tall & 3' wide each both 1/4 glass.Well i wenton about mu buisness and that evening walked in to make my rounds and mist etc etc . well as i looked in the boas cage i noticed something amiss!!! my 8 ft male has escaped my first thought was well hes in the room somewhere as the door was shut. hmmmWRONG as i looked all over i noticed the window was open a few inches for air flow in the room OHH [bleep] i think... i look and sure enough the screens pushed out well there was a porch roof so out the window i go hmm no 8 foot boa there .. so i go back down stairs to go out . after a hr ouf crawling under the big porch rusttling the leaves .. stirring up a unsuspecting copperehead and gouging my head scampering away from under the porch im almost crazed . how could i have been so stupid i think . well by this time my neighbor walks over and asked what ya looking for ... didnt wantto alarm him i had a 8' boa on the prowl . so i said nothing just looking for something. well as i walk back to the porch it dawns on me .,... hmm i look up and theres a 60-80 foot tall pine tree that runs besdie the house just a few feet from the roof of the porch. hmm i think naaa he wouldnt have back to the roof i go and start scanning the tree and sure as hell there he was in the TOP of this pine and i mean TOP . so i go grab my shirt and a towel and climb the pint well of course the highter i got the further out the limb he crawls so picture a 180lb man in the top of 60-80' pint tree the size of a beer can at the top trying to finaggle a 8 ' boa back to me . well after coaxing him to go no further i grab the towel and blanketed him with it he then promptly came strait to me ( not happy and striking ) i ended up with him biting me hand and coiling my arm Great i think wth do i do now as im trying to get him loose my neighbor see the comotion in the tree and me up it ... well now the cats out of the bag ... he was LOL so hard at me in the tree with a snake chewing my hand he walked in got his wife ... and kids to come watch me . i finally managed to get the boa down w/o either of us falling but needless to say a hot summer NC day on a pine tree with seeping SAP and biting boas i was not the happiest camper. for weeks the neighbor teased me over the snake /tree & being bitten.

I never left his cage unlocked again
