Not real sure what to do

Demona Dec 05, 2003 10:17 AM

So, I had my gecko at the vet yesterday for a de-worming, and I told her about a problem I've been having with my leo. I haven't seen him eat in like two weeks! I say that I haven't 'seen' him eat because it seems like the mealworms are disappearing, and he's gaining weight. He weighed 26 grams two weeks ago, and now he weighs 30. Maybe he's just being sneaky about his eating, but I'm concerned because some nights there aren't any mealworms missing, and his poops are a lot smaller and less frequent. The vet didn't know what to tell me...she said that he's obviously eating something because he's gaining weight. But...he used to be a ravenous eater. I put him in with a bunch of crickets yesterday and he ignored them, and if I hold a squirming mealworm in front of him with tweezers, he ignores it.

Anyway, I was just wondering if this is normal, or if maybe he's eating less because he's gotten older a larger?

. . . leos eat less in the winter. Don't worry about it - it's their body telling them to slow down a bit.

Save your vet money - enjoy the lower feed bill. Cut down your feedings to 2 or three times a week - and offer less. You keep on trying to power feed them, you will worrying both him and you into a tizzy.

Hang loose - enjoy learning about the variety in leos' lives.

Every time I read one of your posts, I get this image of a stoned hippy reclining in a bean bag chair with leopard geckos climbing all over each of his arms. hehe

You might have something with this whole 'zen' and 'chill' philosophy thing.

I think a lot of us newbies could benefit from a little chillin' every once and a while. I know that after almost 2 months, I still worry if me walking across the room is worrying her...I know damn well she's sleeping and doesn't really care, but I still worry. I guess in time, the zen style will kick in.

Peace

. . . that's a good one. LOL.

You would probably flip out if you knew what I really did for a living.

Hey - maybe I could use that in my next gathering . . . . .hhmmmmm.. . probably not.

I'm not much into Buddhism - but there seems to be a Zen of herpetoculture!!

I don't think I'd have enough food for the kids if I served a little "dakota ditch weed" with the spaghetti . . .
